Availability
Available templates, custom prompts, note length, screenshots, and output languages can depend on your plan.
Video Note Taker lets you decide what kind of note you want before you save or export it.
Choose a built-in template for a common use case, or create a custom prompt when you need a specific structure, audience, or outcome.
Open the template settings
Open a processed video in WayinVideo.
Under AI Notes, click Change template.
The template panel includes two areas:
Template for built-in note formats
Custom for prompts you define yourself
Choose a built-in template
Select a template that matches what you want to do with the video.
Examples can include:
Study Guide for organized learning notes
Keynote Notes for core ideas, memorable quotes, and practical takeaways
LinkedIn Post for turning a video into a professional social post
These are examples rather than a complete list. Check the template panel for the formats currently available in your workspace.
Configure the output
After choosing a template, review the output settings.
Output language
Choose the language you want WayinVideo to use for the generated note. The output language can be different from the language spoken in the video.
Review names, specialist terminology, numbers, and direct quotes before sharing translated notes.
Length
Choose the amount of detail you need:
Short for a quick overview
Medium for a balanced note
Long for more context and supporting detail
Longer is not always better. Choose the shortest format that still captures the information you need.
Timestamps
Turn timestamps on when you want to trace ideas back to the original video.
Timestamps are useful for study notes, research, quotes, meeting records, and any output that another person may need to verify.
Video screenshots
Turn video screenshots on when visual examples matter.
Screenshots can be useful for:
Slides and presentations
Product demonstrations
Screen recordings
Tutorials
Visual examples
Important scenes or on-screen evidence
Create a custom prompt
Open Custom, then choose New prompt.
Describe the exact result you want. A useful custom prompt normally includes:
The purpose of the note
The intended reader
The sections or format to use
The level of detail
Any information to prioritize or exclude
Whether to include timestamps, quotes, examples, or action items
Example: Cornell-style study notes
Create Cornell-style study notes for a university student. Use the sections Key Ideas, Evidence and Examples, Review Questions, and Final Recap. Explain specialist terms in plain English and include timestamps for every major idea. Do not invent information that is not supported by the video.
Example: Meeting notes
Turn this video into concise meeting notes. Separate Decisions, Action Items, Open Questions, and Important Context. For each action item, include the owner and deadline only when they are explicitly stated. Include timestamps for decisions and unresolved questions.
Example: Research brief
Create a research brief for a product team. Summarize the main claims, supporting evidence, counterarguments, limitations, and implications. Include important quotes and timestamps, and flag any claims that should be independently verified.
Apply and review the result
Click Apply to generate the selected note.
Review the result before exporting it. In particular, check:
Names and technical terms
Numbers and dates
Direct quotes
Whether action items were explicitly stated
Whether timestamps open the expected source section
Whether the selected template matches your intended use
If the result is too broad, make the prompt more specific. If it is too long, reduce the selected length or ask for fewer sections.
Save the result to your knowledge system
When the note is ready, use the download menu to export it as TXT, PDF, DOC, or Markdown, or send it directly to Notion or Obsidian.
This makes it possible to reuse one video as a study note, research record, content draft, meeting document, or connected knowledge source without manually reformatting the same information.
